Our Mission
We are committed to delivering efficient, effective, and professional planning and building services to the citizens of Sierra Madre and to development professionals, while safeguarding life and property, strengthening the City’s economic base, and protecting its neighborhoods and natural environment. Through thoughtful planning, responsible regulation, and proactive enforcement, we enhance the City’s economic vitality, preserve the character of its neighborhoods, and protect its unique natural environment for current and future generations.
Department Overview
The Planning & Community Preservation Department is comprised of three integrated divisions that work collaboratively to support the City’s long-term vision:
Planning and Zoning
Responsible for regulating the type, scale, and land use allowed at a given location, ensuring development aligns with community standards and long-term planning goals.
Building and Safety
Responsible for structural and life-safety concerns in the construction, demolition, or alteration of buildings, ensuring compliance with building codes and protecting the public.
Code Enforcement
Conducts investigations to address code violations and public nuisances, working to maintain neighborhood standards and community quality of life.
