The City of Sierra Madre contracts with Pasadena Humane to provide animal control and animal services for the community.

Animal Control Services

Pasadena Humane provides the following services for Sierra Madre:

  • Animal control and dog licensing
  • Assistance with sick or injured animals
  • Barking dog complaints
  • Dog bites
  • Lost and found animals
  • Cruelty and neglect investigations
  • Feral cat trap-neuter-return assistance
  • Emergency response during natural disasters
  • Assistance with wildlife concerns
  • Removal of deceased animals from public streets

Additional services available to Sierra Madre residents include:

  • Affordable spay/neuter services
  • Vaccination clinics
  • Microchipping
  • Pet adoption
  • Dog daycare and boarding
  • Training classes and humane education programs

Dog Licenses

The State of California requires all dogs four months of age and older to be licensed.

  • Pasadena Humane administers dog licensing for Sierra Madre
  • Licenses can be obtained online through Pasadena Humane
  • Paper forms are also available at Sierra Madre City Hall
  • Licensing questions may be directed to Pasadena Humane

Adoption

Pasadena Humane operates a full-service animal shelter in Pasadena with a wide selection of animals available for adoption. Training classes are also offered to assist with pet behavior.

Animal Cruelty or Neglect

  • Investigated jointly by the Sierra Madre Police Department and Pasadena Humane
  • Barking dogs and noise complaints should be reported to Sierra Madre Police (non-emergency)

Control and Leashing of Dogs

Dogs must be restrained by a substantial chain or leash not exceeding six feet in length and must remain under the control of a competent person at all times. Dogs may not run at large on public or private property unless properly enclosed.

Reports of injured, stray, or lost animals — including dogs, cats, and wildlife — should be directed to Pasadena Humane:

Animal Noise and Ordinances

Sierra Madre has ordinances related to noisy animals, including barking dogs.

Excessive animal noise may be reported to Sierra Madre Police (non-emergency)

Officers may assist in resolving concerns before escalation to court proceedings
