Outreach and Education

The Sierra Madre Fire Department is committed to fire prevention and public safety through outreach and education programs. These efforts focus on children, families, and community members of all ages and promote awareness, preparedness, and engagement throughout the year.

The majority of the Fire Department’s public education activities are directed toward children within the community. Public education programs are provided to the seven public and private schools in Sierra Madre.

These programs include presentations at the Fire Station led by Fire Department members and are designed to promote fire safety awareness and prevention among students.

As part of National Fire Prevention Month in October, the Sierra Madre Fire Department hosts an annual Fire Prevention Festival at the Fire Station. This event includes representatives from neighboring fire departments, the Sierra Madre Police Department, utility companies, and vendors offering fire prevention products and services.

Throughout the year, the Fire Department and the affiliated Sierra Madre Volunteer Firefighters Association support a variety of local events and activities, including:

  • Supporting area baseball, softball, and soccer teams
  • Hosting an annual Easter Egg Hunt in Memorial Park
  • Providing EMS services for the annual Mount Wilson Trail Race
  • Participating in the annual Fourth of July Parade
  • Co-hosting the Pumpkin Smash event with the Sierra Madre Library
  • Hosting the annual Fire Prevention Festival at the Fire Department
  • Escorting children in the annual Halloween Costume Parade
  • Escorting Santa Claus to the annual Tree Lighting in Kersting Court
  • Donating Christmas stockings to area children, including a visit from Santa Claus
