Heat Advisories

Hot weather can cause serious illness. Take steps to stay cool, drink water regularly and check on others during periods of high heat.

Stay cool and hydrated

  • Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day. Take breaks in a cool place.

  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat outdoors.

  • Drink water regularly.

  • Spend time in an air-conditioned place. If your home is too hot, find a cooling location.

  • Close curtains or shades on windows that receive direct sunlight.

  • Check on family, friends and neighbors, especially older adults and people who live alone.

Do not rely on a fan alone during extreme heat. CDC advises using fans only when indoor temperatures are below 90°F.

Find a place to cool down

Visit Los Angeles County’s cooling center and heat safety resources or call 211 for help finding a cooling location.

Check current hours and availability before traveling.

Heat emergencies
