High Winds & Red Flag Warnings

Prepare for strong winds, reduce fire risks and understand City parking restrictions.

A National Weather Service Red Flag Warning does not automatically activate City parking restrictions.

Prepare before strong winds

  • Secure outdoor furniture and trash containers.
  • Avoid activities and equipment that can create sparks.
  • Review your evacuation plan and emergency supplies.
  • Keep streets, driveways and emergency access areas clear.

Follow official City announcements for parking activation and end times.

National Weather Service Red Flag Warning

The National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning when weather conditions are occurring or expected that could support extreme wildfire behavior. These conditions can include strong winds, low humidity and dry vegetation.

A Red Flag Warning does not mean a wildfire has started. It means that if a fire begins, it may spread rapidly and become difficult to control.

City Red Flag Alert Day

A City Red Flag Alert Day is a local declaration under Municipal Code Chapter 10.52. It addresses heightened risks from fire danger, debris flow or mudflow. Check City announcements to learn when the declaration and parking restrictions are in effect.

When the Fire Department activates parking restrictions during a City-declared Red Flag Alert Day, on-street parking is prohibited on designated streets.

Residents must remove vehicles from designated streets when the Fire Department activates parking restrictions during a City-declared Red Flag Alert Day. Vehicles parked in violation may be removed at the owner’s expense, and violations may be subject to penalties under the Municipal Code.

These restrictions help keep routes open for emergency responders and evacuating residents. Follow posted signs and official City announcements regarding when restrictions begin and end.
