Policies and Training Materials

Senate Bill 978, in effect since January 1, 2020, requires local law enforcement agencies and the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to make their current standards, policies, practices, operating procedures, and educational and training materials publicly available online. The goal is to enhance public understanding of law enforcement procedures, promote transparency, strengthen community trust, and simplify access to information, thereby reducing the need for individual California Public Records Act (CPRA) requests.

The Sierra Madre Police Department fulfills this obligation by ensuring its policy manual is accessible on this website. To develop and update our policies, the Department partners with Lexipol, a platform grounded in constitutional law and recognized best practices used by law enforcement agencies throughout California.
