Inspections

Inspections are offered by three separate departments, depending on the type of permit issued. See below for the type of inspections provided by each department and how to schedule them.

Public Works Inspections

These inspections are required for permits that affect public streets, sidewalks, and infrastructure, ensuring public safety and compliance with City standards. Typical inspections include:

  • Encroachment & Excavation
  • Sewer Lateral & Utility
  • Grading & Drainage
  • Transportation (Wide Load)

To schedule an inspection: Contact Public Works at (626) 355-7135. Please allow at least 24 hours notice.

Fire & Safety Inspections

These inspections ensure compliance with wildfire preparedness, life-safety regulations, and California Health and Safety Code requirements. Typical inspections include:

  • Defensible Space – AB 38, High and Very High Fire Hazard Zones
  • Multi-Family Residential Properties
  • School Facilities
  • Church and Assembly Buildings

Building & Safety Inspections

Building & Safety inspections are required for permits related to construction, structural work, and regulated systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and the California Building Standards Code. Building & Safety inspections are available once a permit has been issued, including:

  • Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP)
  • Building & Safety (structural alterations)
  • Sewer
  • Demolition
  • Solar & SolarAPP+
  • Signs

Maintain an Active permit status: Once your permit is issued, you will need to schedule your first inspection within one year of the permit issued date. Every subsequent inspection will need to be done within 6 months of the previous inspection for the permit to remain active.

To schedule a Building & Safety inspection: Submit your request via the electronic form below. Inspections are available Monday through Friday and must be requested at least one business day in advance. Monday inspections must be scheduled by 5:00 p.m. the previous Thursday.
