Urban Water Management Plan
The City of Sierra Madre prepares an Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) to guide long-term planning for the City's water supply. Under the California Urban Water Management Planning Act, urban water suppliers are required to prepare and update an UWMP at least once every five years.
The UWMP evaluates the City's water service area, current and projected water use, existing and future water supplies, water supply reliability, drought risk, conservation and demand management measures, and the City's ability to meet future water needs under normal and dry-year conditions.
The City's 2025 Urban Water Management Plan also includes the Water Shortage Contingency Plan, which establishes the City's framework for responding to water supply shortages, including shortage levels, demand reduction measures, operational actions, communication procedures, monitoring, and enforcement.
