Lima Street Water Main Replacement Project

Status: Construction
The City is replacing approximately 1,440 linear feet of aging water main on North Lima Street between West Grand View Avenue and West Carter Avenue. The project will improve water service reliability, fire flow, and the long-term performance of the City's water system.
Current Update: Crews are currently completing hydrant connection work as part of the North Lima Street Water Main Replacement Project. This work connects the fire hydrant infrastructure to the new water main and is part of the ongoing installation and connection of water system improvements along North Lima Street.

The executed contract amount and the Council authorization ceiling are separate figures. The authorization ceiling is not the contractor's final paid cost.
- Install approximately 1,440 linear feet of new 6-inch PVC water main.
- Reconnect 41 water services to the new main.
- Install five new fire hydrants and associated valves and appurtenances.
- Complete testing, final connections, pavement restoration, and street striping.
- Work generally occurs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Construction advances in active work areas of approximately 200 to 400 feet.
- Temporary no-parking zones, traffic controls, and short driveway-access restrictions may be required near the active trench.
- Local, pedestrian, and emergency access will be maintained. Through traffic should use an alternate route.
- No weekend work is currently scheduled.
August 12, 2026
Excavation continued through the granite-bearing section of the trench. A pneumatic breaker was used to break the dense material so the crew could continue evaluating and advancing the water-main alignment.
August 10, 2026
The contractor reported that mainline installation was slightly more than halfway complete. Crews encountered a dense layer of granite that slowed excavation, including areas where a pneumatic breaker had difficulty reaching the planned trench depth.
Crews began spot trenching toward Carter Avenue to determine how far the granite extends. The project team is evaluating pipe cover and protection options based on those field findings. The intended target is 30 inches of cover. A final installation approach had not yet been selected as of this update.
August 6, 2026
Mainline construction began. The crew completed approximately 240 feet of installation and one fire-hydrant lateral during the first day of work. A second hauling truck was planned to support the next day's excavation.
